Centipede Visit to Room 1!

We discovered a centipede on the concrete at lunchtime.

It was much bigger than centipedes we had seen before.

We discovered that it is a centipede that you only find in Auckland.

Centipedes like to live in damp places. Under the bark in our school gardens is a good place for centipedes.

Centipedes are harmless to humans, so we weren't scared, even though it was pretty big!

Centipedes eat other insects, spiders and even cockroaches.

We were fascinated by the centipede. When we were finished looking we put the centipede safely back in the garden. We hope that he found some good bark to hide under!

Room 1's Sentence Gems from the Waitakere Gym trip

Zoom! I ran across the floor. It was Wednesday and Room 1 and 2 were at Waitakere Gym. Felix

Woosh, woosh boom, into the foam pit. On Wednesday we went to Waitakere Gym. Cyan

First we got on the bus. Weeeeeeeee, the bus went off and we went down a hill. Finally we were there. Ashley

First we got there. Next we got our shoes off. Then we did warm ups, puff, puff, puff! Tupaia

We set off to do some gym. First I went on the swing, swing, swing on the rings. They were fun, but some boys landed on their faces to show off (which was annoying). Emily

We got in line and walked over to the beam. Oliver's turn was first. He walked across the beam slowly. Then it was Alfa's turn. He ran across the beam. Then it was my turn. I ran across too. Ezra

My group went to the trampoline and jumped in to the squishy foam pit. When the music turned on we switched activities.  Jessie

I went on the foam pit and it felt like I was flying. Cassie

I dived in the foam pit and I played on the bar. Jessie

I bounced on the trampoline. Then I bounced into the snake pit. Alex

Boing, boing, boing! I cannon balled into the snake pit. I felt that I was drowning in the snake pit but I finally leapt out of the snake pit. Seko

My favourite activity was the bungy jump. In the bungy jump it had sponges. It was fun because I went on the trampoline and I cannon balled in that time. Francis

First we went on the beam. It was awesome. It was like I was walking on a bridge. Plop! I fell down on my feet. It was funnier than ever. John

First our group did the trampoline. The second activity was vault. The third activity was the foam pit. The fourth activity was bars and the fifth activity was the rings. Alfa

My really, really favourite was the rope swing. Whoopeeeee! I went into the foam pit. Griffin

After that we started to play on equipment. My first activity was running on to a little trampoline into the foam pit. I thought I would drown in the foam pit. I landed on my back. I crawled out and lined back up. Jack

Then we got to the rope swing. It felt like you were swinging on a vine in the jungle and you were going to slap, bang into a tree...slap, bang! Lotta

Wobble, wobble, wobble. Now I was on the beam. First on the beam I went forward. Next I went backwards on the beam. Then the music went. Paloma

We changed to swing in the foam pit. Lotta went first. Then I went . Swing, swing arghhhh! I felt like I was falling from the sky. Matthew

The next activity I did was the bars. You swing from a bar and then you let go and fall into the foam. When it was my turn I dived into the foam pit. When I landed I flung myself out of the foam. Oliver

Swish I raced through the air and landed in the foam. Kalia

I was jumping on the trampoline and crashed into the foam pit. It was lots of fun. Talie

Room 1's cultural prints

Room 1 was inspired by tapa and tivaevae designs. We had a go at drawing our own tapa or tivaevae design. Then we created a monoprint and then a printing block. We used sticky printing ink to create three different coloured backgrounds. After that we printed our tapa or tivaevae print using black ink. Have a look at our printing blocks and our finished prints.

Room 1's Green Thoughts

Room 1 has been learning about red and green thoughts. Red thoughts are negative thoughts. They don't help us and they aren't true. We can change our red thoughts into green thoughts. Green thoughts help us and make us feel good about ourselves. We all had a go at writing green thoughts that we can say to ourselves. Have a listen to our positive green thoughts.

I totally loved the jump jam. I loved it so much that I asked my Mum if we could buy the music. Emily

I showed my parents my art. We were walking around to look for the classroom that had the art. Finally we found the art room and we looked around for my printing block. My Mum found it. It was at the bottom of the cupboard. Talie

Tupaia's Rugby Recount

I got up on Sunday, "Yaaa, it's rugby rrrr rugby, YES!"
I had to get up, and I did. Anyway, for breakfast I had Nutrigrain. Then I put my uniform on. I got my mouth guard on. Now it was rugby. We got there in time. Oh gosh I felt tired!
Anyway we started with a SCRUM. The whistle went, I rushed to the goal, but I just got tackled. So that team got the ball. I went to him and I jumped and I got it. We scored a goal. Then we had another scrum. They got the ball...oh great! But the game wasn't over. "Your on" I said to the other team. I was the captain. I rushed to the goal and scored a try. We had 20 points and the other team only had 18 points. Now they got the ball. We scored another try. We had the most points. But then they caught up...but we scored another try. Our team was player of the day!

Emily's Recount

Yawn.  Sorry I've just got up.  Let me tell you what happened when I was asleep.  My sister turned 9!!!  I know it's quite hard to imagine when I'm only two years younger than her.  She turned 9 at 4 o'clock in the morning which is too early for my liking.  But I accidently forgot to make her a card for her birthday.  She got a blue iPod, a blue ice skating dress, a pretty head band and a designing book.  I know you can tell she loves blue.  Now let me tell you something also about her birthday.  Well there isn't much more to tell you because it's Monday which is a school day.  Hmmm, oh I forgot to tell you something.  She is going to take lollipops to school and she's going to save one for me (one hour later).  Bring, bring on the school bell.

We got dressed and started getting ready for the party. The day felt like a year. Finally we went to the bead shop. We made a necklace and a bracelet then we went home and played musical statues and musical cushions. Then we made pizza. I felt exhausted because we stayed up for ages.

'My Dragon' By Griffin

In the holidays I went to a castle with my pet dragon. His name is Thunder. He likes to eat bones. He looks like a dinosaur. His colour is red and he has spike son his back. He can fly very fast. He can shoot a fireball.

Stardome Observatory Trip

Room's 1 and 2 visited the Stardome Observatory to start our learning about Space. We loved watching the movie about two children who flew to outer space in their imaginations. We learnt some really interesting facts about the Sun, Earth and the planets in our Solar System. But best of all we can't wait to do some more learning about Space back in our classroom.
